#blob modeler 4 morfs??
Message #130047
Try Metereyes, they have a Metaball modeller as an IPAS for 3DS.
Assign a wireframe material to the objects in the scene, and then render it out!
I have my locks on a short length of ribbon cable, and velcro'd to the side of the case. There is also a card available that allows you to put your locks internally.

Re-install off your ORIGINAL 3D Studio disks and it will fix the problem. If it does not, take the disks back to your Autodesk dealer and get a replacement set. This message usually appears because of a corruption of your 3DS.exe file
Just a quick note to all you PAL users…Remember to change the field order setting in your 3ds.set file, otherwise your fields reverse and look AWFUL. Also, if you are using something like a multigen instead of a framebuffer, then field rendering will not work for you, and will look…

Also try using the latest version of VIDVUE (GO GRAPHSUPP) or the absolutely latest GWSWIN (same forum) or adobe premiere, or AVI Recorder.
Dell Pentium HEELLLPP!!
Message #115403
Thanks for the info…however our dell 90 has the ATI 64 as opposed to the #9 card….Hmmmm
Yes it happens when coming up with the boot files CLEAN! I have even tried it with NO config and autoexec…same problem. Hmmmmmm
#Dell Pentium HEELLLPP!!
Message #114641
HEEEELLLLP, We have one of the new Dell Pentium 90 Machines, and after installing Studio, and trying to run 3DS VIBCFG it hangs. We then reboot the machine and it says sorrry…Invalid COMMAND.COM. Hmmmmmm The Dell dude came out and re-formatted the HD, we reinstalled it all but with the…
#4 days rendering time!!!
Message #114638
What machine are you rendering it on??? If it is a pentium turn off the power save features. Also increase your files and buffers settings, and consider buying OPTIMIZE IPAS as this can reeeeeallly help.
Have you got the latest Vibrant drivers from here???? (Shame on you for buying a Tseng Clone card) The ones from Tseng themselves are directly supported.
G'day Ed, Do you know of any way to get an accurate measure of a flic file in minutes and seconds (like you get if you use the Media Player for Flics in Windows.) I have the animation developers kits and POCO books but I cannot seem to find a…
Video Card Query
Message #113856
The fastest card I have used for playing FLIC files is the TSENG Labs ET-4000 W32P (not any other incarnation of the w32). It is a TRULY fast card for DOS bitmap performance. It outperforms my Diamond Viper for Animation playback. However, Windows performance is not as good as many…
The 4WD Celica is selectable between 4 and 2WD, but it is faster in 4WD than just about anything else in 2WD Peter
The wires are relatively fragile, but you can strand 50 or a few hundred of them together to get some real pulling strength! The projects that come with the book are mainly very small thingies made from balsa and cardboard and bits of string and stuff. As for R/C cars,…
I have gone on some of the 3D Rides and the depth perception is VERY impressive! I have also been experimenting with writing a 3D modeller to use with the LCD glasses as my biggest problem at the moment is depth perception when trying to model something. I have to…

Message #96442
Sounds cool, I have been using 3DS to create stereo flics for a while now, using a pair of modified Sega LCD Glasses, and 3DTV's stereo Flic player. I also set up 2 camera views as the bottom two viewports (each slightly apart of course) then by crossing your eyes…

Ayyy yi yi! Computers, robots, RC Cars..all the hobbies that are bottomless money pits! (I should know…I waste my wages on all 3 ) I found the address and the book, but left it at home, so I will drop the details tomorrow. I had a look at the pricing…
There is a PC controller interface circuit that you can build, plus a few that dont require it. They have a six legged walking thingie called BORIS, a butterfly and many other bits such as ratchet motors and all sorts of nasty time consuming things! If I could only find…
As soon as I find the # I will pass it on. The kits are well under $100.00 and the wire is relatively cheap. Peter
FFD IPAS version 1

What muscle wire is is just pre-stressed nitinol wires. Nitinol is a dual shap memory metal which means if you heat it, it will assume one shape, cool it and it will form its other shape. You can harness this by applying current to the wire which heats it, and…
Unfortunatley, a typical 3DS node would require 200MB at least for storage, unless all files were being dumped back to the server.
I don't know wether you would get more performance slaving a Base model Indy, as opposed to a few pentiums….. Anyhow, I wonder wether a Pentium Specific render engine would speed things up a lot?!?
Plus one of the biggest points of 3D Studio is that you can get workstation results for a low price on low priced hardware (ie PC's) Plus get great performance by networking low priced hardware. By going SGI, those two benefits dissolve, plus who does the IPAS re-writes etc. Hmmmmm…..
G'day ed, Have you looked at the nitinol powered projects from those mad buggers at ummm, I have forgotten their name. I will look it up tonight, they have robot projects for your PC for well under $100.00 using nitinol "muscle wire" it really is intersting stuff. I will track…
I will email it to you tonight…Sorry about the delay, but I have to CSERVE from home as the modem is flaky here. Thanx…Peter
If you had any more info on the MPEG converter I would love to see it (Unfortunately I am not on Internet) Thanx for the info! Peter
I have uploaded the problem project file, and a tif with the probel areas outlined. It is called rflect.zip. Thanx again! Peter
Thanks Jack, I will send up a project file with what I mean. It is mainly apparent when you look at the top section of the autoreflect sphere. I will throw the project file up here today. Thanx for your help. Peter.
MPEG?????
Message #92724
Does anyone know of a package or IPAS or anything that will allow you to render to an MPEG stream for playback via an MPEG board like the REEL Magic? Even if it took a sequence of JPG's TGA's or whatever and converted it to MPEG overnight? This would allow…
I tried putting a sphere in front of a background, applying an auto-reflective material and it appears to be cubic mapped! I put 'clone' of the sphere in the picture with a reflection map of Valley_l.tga (spherically mapped) and it appears spherically mapped, and the other appears cubically mapped (ie…
#Auto Reflection HELP!!!
Message #92531
I seem to be having a problem with Auto-reflection. If I make a sphere auto-reflective and render it with a background, it appears to cubically map the background onto the sphere, rather than spherically map it. This is true of any shaped object I apply an auto-reflective material to, it…
You mean this kind of wink? 😉 Peter |^/
Yeah…I wouldn't like to be the person who had the two LVR's before me! I faxed you the SAW stuff today, hope you find it interesting. BTW where can I steal a copy of VBRUN300.DLL in a hurry? Thanx….Peter
For once it was not the cable! We actually got two (count 'em) dead LVR's in a row…Number three is woring A-ok and been rendered to for the last 40+ hours and is still going strong. It is such a shame you can only write to them once! (ie I…
The baud rate switches are okay (1 and 2 up), but with the cable, does it only require 2 and 3 swapped over? The red light for the remote switch only comes on if we select 9 pin on the switch on the front. If we select rs-232…no red light.…
Gday Gus, We have been trying to get a Sony lvr-4000p running with 3DS 3 using the VTP-CVR.EXP. I have it set up via com1, using a null modem cable, but it does not seem to recognise the recorder (it keeps telling me to check the remote switch) any ideas?…
Thanx for the Info! Peter
Check out some of the games on the new ATARI JAGUAR 64 bit system. One in particular looks very 3D Studio (Trevor Mcfur in the Crescent galaxy! no less). Also, as it is a new machine with quite a few developers signing up, maybe you could interest Atari in passing…
I will dig out the brochure tonight for saw and check the details…If you throw me your fax number I could fax it across to you (about 6 pages) Peter
Thanks guys …but we found the problem last night…a work experience chappie had put a 'cracked' version on our server, we didn't realise until I checked the 3ds.exe filesize. I re-installed and all was okay (except for 8 hours of rendering down the gurgler). Rest assured his school report will…
I got a bit confused during your message, but I think all you need to do is apply your flc as an animated map to the surface you want the animation on. Peter
Have you checked out some software called SAW (software audio workshop?) It allows realtime recording at CD Quality or higher, 4 Tracks, vari-pitch, smpte options, you name it! It is a very nice looking beastie.

Commanche does use voxels, there is a good file called VOXEL.ZIP in the CYBERFORUM forum here on cserve that explains what voxels are all about. BTW what do you think of DOOM. It might not be true 3D, but it is fast and looks good!
I am getting reALLY strange results when network rendering via net queue EVEN when only doing it on one machine. For instance to render the morph duck off the WCT-CD, if I use net queue, every couple of frames is rendered dark, as if the lights were on extra low,…

Gday John, You wouldn't have a fax # for ed Brault would you ??? As we are down in Oz, I usually find that faxing works really well. Thanks again! Peter
