I talked with Alex of CEI on the 14th. He said an offer was going out that same day. Included was a letter of credit for the FULL amount of the bid! This is the first time a bid was fully backed up with cash! Hopefully, we'll hear something soon!…
#A1200 + SCSI+
Message #154916
Robert, you may recall we discussed our mutual slow 120m seagates in our 1200's quite a while ago. I've tried all sorts of changes (maxtransfers, masks, etc) with no improvements. It's been a while but I remember changing the maxtransfer to a low value of 512 bytes! (which gave me…
I have heard that newer Quantum GO drives will work in the 1200 (a dealer told me this) I have a Seagate ST9144a (120 meg) in my 1200 and it works ok except it not very fast. (under 200k/sec read/writes) later!
No, I think I'll send the money to the IRS instead! 🙁 If I do get a color scanner it will have to be one with a parallel port (like the Epson models) since I may never get around to adding a scsi port to my 1200. later!
Now I'm looking at the flyer from Migraph! UPDATE: MS1200: 300×600 optical (600×1200 interpolated max) 3 pass scanning MS2400: 600×1200 optical (600×2400 interpolated max) 1 pass scanning Both: 24 bit color, 8 bit greyscale and monochrome line art (8 dithers) Scanning area for both: 8.5" x 14" Scan speed (letter…
I just received a flyer from Migraph. They are now selling 2 flatbed color scanners of their own! I don't have the literature with me now but I'll do my best to summarize: Model 1: 600×1200 Model 2: 1200×1200 (maybe higher?) both use interpolation to achieve those numbers. Model 1…
Unless they acknowledge some errors of the past then they won't ever learn from the past and will continue to make blunders in the future! If "what will be" becomes history repeating itself then we are on a fast sinking ship! later!
How about: What could Commodore have done differently with Marketing AND Engineering of the Amiga (from the Amiga 1000 days to the present) so that they wouldn't be in the mess they are in now? (it would be interesting to find out how they believe they screwed up!)
Roy….I know there is a NEC-2A monitor that does NOT sync to 15khz. There is a NEC-2 that DOES sync to 15khz. (haven't heard of a 2D) From what I've heard the 3D is one of the best for the 1200/4000 Amigas. later!
Mark….try 0xFFE0 I think Commodore recommended a value just under 64k for those IDE drives (Maxtor's one) that needed it. I heard of people using a value just under 128k with no problems. Unless the 64k causes a slow data transfer rate (check with Diskspeed) as compared to 128k, I'd…
Do you have the A600 power supply? My 1200 came with an A500 power supply (which provides about 50% more power than the A600's power supply) Supposedly Seagates and Western Digital IDE's can run fine with large maxtransfer values…others should be set to just under 64k. later!
here are results from INFO: Mounted disks: Unit Size Used Free Full Errs Status Name DH0: 20M 41371 1212 97% 0 Read/Write Boot DH1: 80M 158462 6011 96% 0 Read/Write Work DH2: 20M 11208 31120 26% 0 Read/Write Data normally dh2: isn't so free…I have moved stuff to the others…
I've changed my Maxtransfer value at least a hundred times without a problem! be sure if you are using RDPREP to READ THE RIGID-DISK-BLOCK before making ANY changes! later!
Funny you should ask! I have a 1 meg animation file (Watch.anim) that I use for testing…. I have Hypercache off, buffers at 128 on each partition and maxtransfer is at 65024 for each partition. From DH1: to DH2: = 13.6 secs first try …. 14.5 secs 2nd try From…
I'm at work now so I don't have any Diskspeed data to report but… I changed Maxtransfer to 65024 on all partitions and rebooted. (btw…supposedly Seagates and Western Digital 2.5" IDE drives didn't need a lower Maxtransfer value but I'll do anything!" After reboot I ran Diskspeed but forgot to…
Bufmemtype is set at 1. Whats strange is addbuffers seems to improve WRITES to DH1: but not DH2: !!! I'll send that mountfile to you asap! thanks!
Yesterday afternoon my 80 meg dh1: (99% full) (128 buffers) Diskspeed reported 500k+/sec reads (Writes about 150k/sec) while my 20 meg DH2: (99% FREE) (128 buffers) remained at 180k/sec reads and 140k/writes!! But last night for no apparent reason, my DH1: was only getting 180k/sec reads and Writes were now…
Thats entirely possible! This is my second 1200, my first had a flicker problem whenever one of my floppy drives clicked! (Commodore Express replaced it) People have been telling my Seagates are slow but I don't necessarily buy that these days…several years ago, yes. thanks!
I certainly didn't mean to imply any problem with any Microbotic program or hardware. I was hopeing you would have some ideas of how I can use RDPrep to speed this thing up. Mask comes up as 0x7ffffffe. I've tried several values including what you just recommended with no help.…
You should at least get a Microbotics MBX-1200z (with clock) even if you can't afford the ram now…eventually you will want to add Fast Ram! later!
That is correct! My first 1200 had the pins on the left side so my 1200 A-clock board could not work. From what I understand, the 1200 was probably going to have 1 meg chip ram expandable to 2 megs of chip ram. I guess Commodore made a wise move!…
Somewhere I was reading about PhotoCD. I seem to recall reading that it uses CDROM-XA (like sub-directories) and that Kodak was going to sell driver packages for IBM & MACs (about $49) so that (I assume) most CDROM drives could read PhotoCD's. IF CDTV can read CDROM-XA disks then all…
I had this same problem a couple years ago….a bad CIA chip! Try swapping both CIA's and see if the problem _changes_ CIA's (8520's) are rather cheap $10 or so and are a good thing to keep a spare on hand! later! – via Whap!
I took out the SETPATH just prior to SAVEAS and the SAVE AS requestor DID Open! This will have to do (manually entering ie: temp: before the filename) and then click on Text_Only thanks!

I'm trying to help a friend convert over 200 Prowrite 3.2 docs into ASCII. I wrote some simple macros but they are not working correctly. Here is a sample of one: /* comment line */ CLOSE SETPATH 'DOCS:' OPEN SETPATH 'TEMP:' SAVE AS (tried SAVEAS too) CLOSE I then repeat…
I called MG today and inquired about purchasing an Amiga 3000 16/50 and a 1950 monitor. They quoted $2199 + $599. I asked what kind of warranty I would get and he said "I would get a 12 month Montgomery Grant warranty… any defective problem with the A3000 or the…
If I was an unscrupulous (sp?) Chevy dealer (Joe Blow doesn't know that) and I did that…Jow would assume he was buying a new car through a legit dealer and would get warranty service. How many potential Amiga buyers are there in the USA??? Subtract from that the number of…
The principle of that policy is a good one BUT suppose someone picks up an AW mag (or any other Amiga oriented mag) and decides to order from MG. They won't be aware of that policy and if they need service and can't get it I bet he/she will let…
You should check out the HP forum for more information. From what I've heard the DJ500 is rated at 3 ppm for TEXT (the DJ Plus is 2 ppm) Graphic printing is about 15% faster than the Plus. I haven't heard of any new fonts (there was/is a rumor that…
Let me just jump in here and say it would be very easy for anyone knowing someone's name and address to clip out a subscription card out of any magazine and select "Bill Me"!!! I don't know if AW or other magazines would send an issue out before collecting payment.…
I don't know if the older version of ASDG's VD0: is here in the library. The difference in the latest one is it's smaller by 4k or so (not a big deal) Plus, its supposed to clean itself more often than the older version. Since I haven't run the latest…
I had the same problems when the 2kb version of VD0 first came out! Finally after some talking to Perry, I came to the conclusion the the latest VD0 will NOT work on an Amiga 500 with 1 meg of ram (512k chip and 512k of C00000 semi-fast memory) Plain…

Heres a trick that you may want to do if you have more than 1 meg of ram. First create another directory MOVE all drivers that you never/rarely use into this new directory. See how much there is left in your PSDRIVERS directory (including the spelling.dictionary) and create a RAD:…
How well does it work doing gray-scale from color originals? Is the resolution still 200 dpi in gray-scale mode?
How large is the file on disk? I don't know if you are doing something wrong or not but if you're still having trouble I'd like to take a stab at importing it myself. If I can print it I'll mail you a copy ASAP. If not, I'll post a…
Well, I guess I shouldn't have assumed that you would have caught my post about a week ago regarding the upgrade policy. And where do you come off assuming what the upgrade policy is WITHOUT ONE BIT OF FACT ??? I"ll repeat……The 1.8 upgrade disk is FREE to registered owners…

Has the problem been fixed regarding using the new vd0 on an Amiga 500 with c0000000 memory? The older version works fine (2.2 I think?) but doesn't cleanup often enough and I have to constantly use CleanRamDisk. later!

I actually read that ad today! Yep, dot matrix support is supported with those Compugraphic fonts. It will be interesting!!! later!
When you are first creating the arc you will have direct manipulation of the arc once you set the center and beginning points and you will see the actual arc on screen as you move the mouse! But once drawn you will have to resize it as a rectangular object.…
The next release may be numbered 1.8 by the way! I caught the new Pro Page ad (another magazine) I was wondering will those fonts work with non-postscript printers? later!

You mentioned a 768×768 NTSC signal? (approx) Since NTSC uses 525 scan/raster lines per frame (2 fields interlaced) How can we have more than the number of horizontal scan lines? (Not even all of the 525 lines are visible due to blanking/timing and/or other signals present in the NTSC signal.)…

Message #3863
I just thought of something! Since DiskSalv needs 2 drives, will it work with one drive AND Workbench 1.3's new recoverable ram disk? If so then 1 drive users will be able to use DISKSALV as long as they have enough memory!

Same goes to you too! When you recommend a program to someone, tell them about ANY special requirements…ie: NEEDS 2 DRIVES or NEEDS 1 MEG of RAM etc!
